Vontobel Divests Its Debt Capital Market Platform

Vontobel has entered into an agreement with ZKB regarding the sale of Cosmofunding, the bank announced in a statement on Thursday. No details were provided on the purchase price. The transaction is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026.

The employees, technology, and client relationships of Cosmofunding will be transferred to ZKB. A seamless transition for clients of the company, which was launched by Vontobel in 2018, is to be ensured.

The platform’s total financing volume amounts to more than 50 billion francs. Since its founding, over 1,000 projects have been financed through Cosmofunding, and around 1'500 investors are registered on the platform, according to the company’s website.

Vontobel said the sale will sharpen its business portfolio and allow it to focus consistently on its «investment-led strategy.»

Expanding Service Offering

According to a separate statement by Zürcher Kantonalbank, the acquisition will expand its broad range of services. With this purchase, the bank is taking over Switzerland’s leading digital marketplace for money and capital market transactions.

«With this acquisition, Zürcher Kantonalbank is strengthening its leading position in the Swiss bond market, significantly expanding its presence in private placements, and further advancing the digitalization of its traditional offerings in this segment over the medium term,» the statement said.

As recently as June, Cosmofunding CEO Stefan Pomberger had discussed the company’s European expansion plans in an interview with finews.ch.
