Switzerland is also well diversified when it comes to unicorns

Switzerland is home to 13 so-called unicorns, meaning unlisted startups with a company valuation of more than $1 billion. Some of the names are also well known in the financial sector. Below is the list of Swiss unicorns, together with their sector and valuation:

  • Sonar, software, $5 billion;
  • ABB E-Mobility, energy and climate technologies, $3 billion;
  • 21.co (parent company of 21Shares), crypto and blockchain, $2 billion;
  • MindMaze, healthtech, $2 billion;
  • DFINITY, crypto and blockchain, $2 billion;
  • Orderfox.com, software, $1.2 billion;
  • Climeworks, energy and climate technologies, $1 billion;
  • Scandit , artificial intelligence, $1 billion;
  • Sygnum, crypto and blockchain, $1 billion;
  • Zama, artificial intelligence, $1 billion;
  • Numbrs , fintech, $1 billion;

The data comes from a report by Bestbrokers.com, a platform for trading platforms based in Bulgaria, covering not only Switzerland but the entire universe.

Worldwide, it identifies 1,757 privately held companies with a value of at least $1 billion.

The three most valuable companies globally are based in the US and are also well known here: SpaxeX ($1.25 trillion), Anthropic ($900 billion) and OpenAI ($852 billion). They are also considered hot candidates for an IPO — and if they were actually to take that step, they would drop out of the unicorn ranking and become interesting to stock brokers around the world.
