Wealthy Genevans Avoid Additional Tax
The initiative to impose a new temporary tax for wealthy citizens living in Geneva on their personal assets was rejected in a vote on Sunday. The initiative would have raised taxes for those with over three million Swiss francs in assets to 1.5 percent from 1 percent over ten years.
A separate vote pushed Geneva onto its path to become the first canton in Switzerland to guarantee 24 weeks of parental leave. The initiative by the Green Liberal Party «parental leave now,» received 57.9 percent of votes. Typically, parents get 16 weeks of parental leave in Switzerland.
