He was Credit Suisse's rainmaker in Switzerland for years – Marco Illy ensured the bank led the league tables at home and anchored some of the largest deals in recent Swiss corporate history.
His plan to defect to UBS last year backfired: Credit Suisse sacked him, and UBS later backed away from hiring him. Illy is sure to surface in another operational role soon. As the saying goes, there are opportunities either with foreign players or providers in the private market.
