Julius Bär Appoints Goldman Sachs Manager as CEO
The traditional, Zurich-based private bank has appointed Stefan Bollinger as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) following a lengthy search process. He is set to begin his new role at Julius Bär no later than February 1, 2025, the bank announced on Tuesday.
The 50-year-old Swiss Bollinger currently serves as Co-Head of Private Wealth Management EMEA (PWM EMEA) at Goldman Sachs in London. He is also a member of the European Management Committee and the Global Wealth Operating Group.
Assets More Than Doubled
Under his leadership, the PWM EMEA division has more than doubled its managed assets over the past five years.
Bollinger brings three decades of experience in banking and financial markets, having held responsibilities in various areas such as trading, structuring, sales, treasury, and wealth management.
He succeeds Philipp Rickenbacher, who stepped down last February after incurring significant losses for the bank due to million-dollar loans to Austrian investor and entrepreneur René Benko and his Signa Group. In the interim, Julius Bär executive Nic Dreckmann took over the leadership.
Career Began with Apprenticeship
Throughout his career, Bollinger has worked in Hong Kong, London, Luxembourg, New York, and Zurich. He has been with Goldman Sachs since 2004, serving as a Partner for 14 of those years. Before Goldman Sachs, he was employed at J.P. Morgan in London. He started his career at Zürcher Kantonalbank.
Bollinger is a CFA Charterholder, a Swiss Certified Financial Analyst & Wealth Manager, and holds a degree from the KV Winterthur School of Economics.
Charitable Engagements
Additionally, he is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the London School of Architecture, a board member of AllChild, a charitable foundation promoting social equality, and a trustee of the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
