Swissquote Weathered a Turbulent Year Well
Swissquote reported its second-best-ever results with a net income of 408 million Swiss francs and a pre-tax profit of 186.4 million francs last year. The results highlight its strong customer base and product mix which helped it weather a challenging environment. Despite the strong results, it elected to leave its dividend unchanged at 2.20 francs per share, which corresponds to 21 percent of last year's net profit.
New Money Inflows
Swissquote reported a net new money inflow of 7.7 billion francs with client assets amounting to 52.2 billion francs, which is a decline from 55.9 billion the year before. Likewise, the Gland-based financial institution said it was able to open over 50,000 new customer accounts, an increase of more than 10 percent on the previous year.
Sixty percent of the net new money came from outside of Switzerland which is showing its growing penetration abroad.
Crypto Assets Decline
As of 31 December 2022, total crypto assets under custody declined to one billion francs from 2.8 billion, despite customers having increased their holdings in major crypto assets by 5.7 percent.
Swissquote now expects 2023 to be a promising year in which new revenue and profit records are likely to be achieved.
