The Geneva prosecutor is questioning six former and current high-ranking employees about the bank’s potential accountability for committing fraud in connection with several oligarchs' accounts, «Bloomberg» reported on Thursday, citing undisclosed sources.

None of the bankers has been accused of any wrongdoing. Further questioning is planned for February, the outlet reported.

Persistent Oligarch

Late, former Credit Suisse banker Patrice Lescaudron was convicted of a $150 million fraud three years ago. Some of his Eastern European former clients including Bidzina Ivanishvili are taking legal action against the bank in several jurisdictions.

Ivanishvili is an ex-prime minister of Georgia and oligarch. In Geneva, he and others recently filed a complaint on suspicion of money laundering, adding to their existing five-year old complaint.

Deceived by Lescaudron?

So far Credit Suisse has insisted that it was also deceived by Lescaudron, who died by suicide last year. In 2018 the bank was reprimanded by Swiss financial regulator Finma for not supervising him adequately.

Credit Suisse said «All investigations into this matter conducted by the bank, Finma and the criminal authorities since 2015 have shown that the former relationship manager was not supported by any other employee of the Credit Suisse in his criminal activities.»

The statement adds: «On the contrary, the relationship manager received monetary rewards from the plaintiff for years without the plaintiff informing Credit Suisse. In the now concluded criminal proceedings against the former relationship manager, he was not convicted of money laundering.»
