Zuger Kantonalbank Nominates Former UBS Switzerland CFO as Chairman
The Board of Directors of Zuger Kantonalbank has nominated Reto Wangler as its new Chairman. He will be proposed for election to the Board as a representative of the private shareholders at the Annual General Meeting on 9 May 2026, and subsequently for election as Chairman, according to a statement released on Wednesday.
He is set to succeed Urs Rüegsegger, who will step down at the upcoming Annual General Meeting after six years as Chairman. Before joining Zug Cantonal Bank, Rüegsegger served as CEO of SIX for around ten years until 2018, and prior to that spent approximately fourteen years at St. Gallen Cantonal Bank, including nearly seven years as CEO.
Various Senior Roles at UBS
Wangler brings extensive experience in the banking sector, the statement continues. He spent more than twenty years in various senior positions at UBS, both in Switzerland and abroad. Among other roles, he served as Regional Director for Central Switzerland, where he was also responsible for the corporate client business.
He also held positions as Chief Operating Officer for UBS Switzerland and for UBS Global Wealth Management. Most recently, he served as Chief Financial Officer for UBS’s Swiss business.
Since leaving UBS in the summer of 2025, Wangler has been a partner at Avanti Group, a technology consulting firm.
