BB Biotech Benefits from Improved Market Environment
The investment company has confirmed its provisional profit figures for 2025, which were already reported in January. Net profit amounted to 578 million francs, compared with 76 million francs in 2024.
Profit for the fourth quarter alone totalled 472 million francs, according to the figures now released. The company pointed to its active portfolio management during the final three months of the year. It maintained a clear focus on selective new investments and targeted reallocations, based on a continuous reassessment of investment theses and risk profiles.
Active Portfolio Management
In the fourth quarter, new stakes were established in Amicus Therapeutics, Nuvalent, Krystal Biotech, Jade Biosciences, Maze Therapeutics and Tango Therapeutics. «These investments reflect our focus on clinically differentiated assets with clearly defined development pathways and strategic relevance – particularly in the areas of rare diseases, oncology and immunology,» the company stated. Positions in Scholar Rock Holding and Viridian Therapeutics were increased.
During the same period, takeover agreements were announced for Amicus Therapeutics and Avidity Biosciences.
At the same time, the portfolio was further consolidated: Macrogenics was fully divested, and exposure to Wave Life Sciences was reduced. Overall, 2025 ended with a higher number of portfolio positions.
Further refinements in valuation, portfolio construction and capital allocation were implemented in 2025, the company said. In total, five portfolio companies were acquired during the year. This underscores the focus on clinically mature, differentiated assets and represents a key driver of value realisation, it added.
Dividend of 2,25 francs
The dividend for 2025 is set at 2,25 francs per share, up from 1,80 francs the previous year. Including the distribution, the total shareholder return of the BB Biotech share in 2025 amounted to 34,2 percent in francs (+37,0 percent in euro and +53,7 percent in dollar terms).
The company also announced that Clive Meanwell will not stand for re-election at the upcoming annual general meeting. The board of directors will in future consist of five members. Mads Krogsgaard Thomsen has been nominated as the new vice chairman, ensuring continuity and scientific expertise.
