Julius Baer Can Take the Next Step in Abu Dhabi

Julius Baer, the Swiss wealth management group, has received final approval from the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) to open a new advisory office in the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM).

Back on 24 November 2025, Julius Baer announced its planned expansion into the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The new entity, Julius Baer (Abu Dhabi) Ltd, will now begin operations in December 2025. It will serve ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs), family offices, and entrepreneurs seeking bespoke wealth management solutions.

«I am happy to share that Bank Julius Baer, just half an hour ago, has received the final approval,» said a delighted CEO Stefan Bollinger at 1pm local Abu Dhabi time on the main stage of ADFW at 1pm local Abu Dhabi time.

Swiss Private Banking For New And Old Generations

Asked what differentiates the new generations of wealthy clients compared to their parents and grandparents, Bollinger explained: «The younger generation is certainly more tech-savvy; they may focus more on lifestyle...but we at Julius Baer, as private bankers, always stress we don't regard a generational change as a transaction but the continuation of a journey.»

The Swiss top banker also pointed out that his financial institution sees disruptive technologies rather as an opportunity and not as a threat. There is a big focus on AI use cases, which is a massive chance because, think of it, in 5 years, who would still do coding, because AI can do it for you? Who would design legal contracts? These are massive opportunities, as they mean to us we can provide a better experience for our clients because a lot of administrative work can be automatically generated. The youngsters have crypto trade experience, which means we can give web3 investment advice that goes beyond traditional finance. And the Middle East has huge potential in this regard, as the UAE in particular embraces such trends.»

Part of the Global Strategy

The new entity will be led by Amir Iskander, who joins Julius Baer as its CEO. Iskander brings many years of experience advising wealthy clients in the Middle East, having held senior roles at Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, Union National Bank, and Citigroup. In his new role, he will report to Régis Burger, Head of Middle East & Africa.

Bollinger emphasised the importance of the region: «The Middle East is one of the most important growth regions for Julius Baer and plays a central role in our global strategy. Two decades ago, we recognised the region’s potential and built a strong local presence. Our expansion into Abu Dhabi is therefore not just another milestone but a clear reaffirmation of our long-term commitment to this dynamic region and to our clients.» Like for the Julius Baer branch in the DIFC, the chief executive said his bank has a clear vision of the UAE capital.
