Italy’s New Made-to-Measure Atelier for Alfa Romeo and Maserati
Something is stirring in the Italian branches of the Stellantis group. The news of the new Bottega Fuoriserie was kept carefully under wraps until the media briefing on Tuesday afternoon.
Under the new label, select premium aspects of Alfa Romeo and Maserati merge into a joint creative and competence center. The division is headed by Cristiano Fiorio, who reports to Santo Ficili, CEO of Alfa Romeo and COO of Maserati.
Expanded Personalization Options
At its core, the initiative integrates four domains where Italian craftsmanship, racing technology, engineering and design sensibility have traditionally reached their peak: the limited-production «few-off» models such as the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale and the Maserati MCXtrema; tailor-made customization along series production lines; the restoration and authentication of historic vehicles under the «La Storia» label; and the transfer of racing know-how to road cars («Corse»).
For customers, the most immediate impact will come from the expanded personalization options for existing Alfa Romeo models. The «Giulia Quadrifoglio» and «Stelvio Quadrifoglio» now join this discipline, which had previously been the preserve of Maserati — from special color and material executions to refined interior details: automotive «su misura».
Deepening Common Roots
The key ambition of Bottegafuoriserie is to deepen the shared roots of Alfa Romeo and Maserati — without blurring their individual identities. «There will be no Alfa Romeos with Maserati wheels,» the two executives stressed. Yet the project consciously builds on historic connections between the brands: the Nettuno engine, Maserati’s current V6, is in fact an evolution of an Alfa Romeo predecessor.
Cooperation with Italian coachbuilders such as Zagato remains part of the common heritage and will be actively pursued in the future. Another priority is identifying meaningful partnerships within the more than 10,000 companies that make up Italy’s Motor Valley ecosystem.
Higher Cadence of Limited Editions
Looking ahead, Fiorio and Ficili announced new «few-off» models in the tradition of the 33 Stradale and MCXtrema — «not too soon, but not too late,» as they put it during the presentation. The cadence of exclusive «one-off» editions — factory-built thematic single cars derived from series models — is also set to increase slightly.
For Jean-Philippe Imparato, CEO of Maserati, the creation of Bottegafuoriserie marks a step forward: «By bringing together the best of Italian design, engineering and culture, Bottegafuoriserie embodies a unique way of shaping the future — one in which we deeply believe.”
A Search for Differentiation
In the long term, the initiative aims to extend to additional Alfa Romeo lines and potentially to other Stellantis brands such as Lancia or Fiat. Even the name Peugeot was mentioned during the press conference as a possible future inclusion — a clear signal that Stellantis views individuality, heritage and collectability as key differentiators amid the increasingly standardized platform strategies of today’s automotive industry.
Bottega Fuoriserie operates under the patronage of the Altagamma Foundation, which brings together Italy’s leading luxury brands under one roof.
