According to Italian media, the collapse on the Generali Tower occurred at around 6.30 a.m. on Monday morning. The scaffolding supporting the Generali lettering on the top of the 192-meter-high building partially collapsed.

The fire department has been in action since the early hours of the morning, the building has been evacuated and the «Piazza Tre Torri» square has been closed, as reported by the newspaper «la Repubblica».

Third Tallest Building in the City

According to Generali the situation was immediately brought under control. The building was immediately secured without harming people or the surrounding buildings.

The Hadid Tower or Torre Generali is part of an ensemble of three high-rise buildings in Milan's CityLife business and shopping district. It is the third tallest building in the northern Italian metropolis after the «Torre Unicredit» and the «Torre Allianz».

Causes Are Being Investigated

As a precautionary measure and to protect public safety, Generali has also cordoned off and fully secured the surrounding area, including the CityLife shopping district. All Generali headquarters employees are currently working remotely. The possible causes of the accident are being investigated.

According to the fire department sources, there were no strong winds at the time of the incident, although temperatures were reportedly high. The billboard's structure consists of steel tubing and is anchored to the tower's central reinforced concrete core. The Hadid Tower was designed by the renowned architect Zaha Hadid and completed in 2017, a year after her death.
