There was a huge turnout this week at the networking event organized by finews.ch and Liechtenstein Finance on the topic of «How the AI megatrend is changing the financial sector» at Zurich's Zunfthaus zur Meisen. It is no surprise that many industry employees are concerned about the implications. One question looms especially large: Will my job still exist a few years from now?

Valuable input on the topic of artificial intelligence (AI) was provided on the evening by three digitalization experts from the very beginning: Simon Gomez, who is responsible for the AI strategy for Fürstenbank LGT; tech pioneer François Rüf, who recently founded an AI startup together with former Vontobel CEO Zeno Staub; and Manuel Grenacher, a long-time entrepreneur who, as CEO and co-founder of Unique AI, is driving forward a rapidly growing company that offers consulting services in the field of AI specifically for financial institutions.

How Long Will there Be Bankers?

At the discussion moderated by finews.ch founder Claude Baumann, the specialists agreed that the «banker» is unlikely to be replaced in the near future, but will continue to play a key role in the advisory process for the foreseeable future, especially in private banking. However, they conceded that the race to exploit the potential of AI has only just begun and will radically change the financial sector.

Not least against the backdrop of the «digital natives» who have grown up with technology and are all the more adept at using it. It is rather unlikely that these so-called NextGen banks, as we know them, will still be in use.

Liechtenstein Finance is an association organized under private law whose members are the Government of the Principality of Liechtenstein and the Liechtenstein financial centre associations.
