Eric Balmer has been appointed as the new Head of Corporate Banking & Trade Finance at the Banque Cantonale de Genève (BCGE) by the Board of Directors. He will take up the post on September 1 and will also become a member of the Executive Board, as detailed in a press release issued on Moday.

Since early March, Nicolas Demierre has been serving as interim head of the division, in addition to his responsibilities as Head of the Global Commodity Finance business unit. This became necessary after Yves Spörri, the previous head, left the bank this spring; he will start as the new CEO of Arab Bank Switzerland at the beginning of 2026.

Many Years of Experience in the Corporate Client Business

BCGE adds that Balmer brings extensive experience in serving corporate clients. In a career spanning more than 28 years, he has worked with most client segments, from SMEs to large Swiss companies with an international focus.

The manager most recently worked as Chief Executive & Managing Director of Global Supply Chain Finance (GSFC) in Zug. Prior to that, he spent approximately 25 years in various management roles at Credit Suisse and Credit Suisse First Boston, working in Lausanne, Zurich, and New York.

Important Commodities Trading in Geneva

Balmer holds a Master's degree in law from the University of Fribourg and a doctorate in law from the University of Lausanne.

The Corporate Banking & Trade Finance division supports companies in Switzerland and France, multinational companies and partners from the real estate and construction sectors. This also includes the financing of commodities trading, which is important for BCGE.
