Overall, rental offers in Switzerland increased slightly in September. Yet, some cantons exhibited significant deviations from the overall trend, as indicated by the latest Homegate Index for rental offers. The overall index rose marginally by 0.2 percent month-on-month to 128.1 points, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 3.9 percent.

A notable outlier was the canton of Schwyz, which experienced a September increase of 3.1 percent. Other cantons such as Uri, with an increase of 1.3 percent and Fribourg and Basel-Stadt, both with an increase of 1.0 percent also surpassed the average. Conversely, the indicators fell in Schaffhausen, with a decrease of 1.4 percent, Graubünden, with a decrease of 1.0 percent, and Valais, with a decrease of 0.7 percent.

Largest Increases in Zurich and Lucerne

Compared to the previous year, every canton saw an increase in rental offers. Notably, the significant rises were in Schwyz with an 11.4 percent increase and Zug with an 11.1 percent increase.

In larger cities, the strongest increase in the reporting month was registered in Basel (+1.1 percent), while Lausanne saw a decrease of 0.5 percent. Year-on-year, rental offers in Lucerne (+8.2 percent) and Zurich (+6.8 percent) exhibited the most substantial upward movement.
