Schaffhauser Kantonalbank Delivers Strong First-Half and Cuts Fees

Schaffhauser Kantonalbank’s (SHKB) core business areas of financing and investing has significantly contributed to its success, with gross interest income rising by 4.5 percent year-over-year due to favorable conditions in the Swiss banking sector.

According to a press release on Friday, positive developments in the financial markets have led to a strong commission result, with an increase of 8.7 percent.

Additionally, wealth management and investment advisory services have delivered above-average performance, with an increase in both the number of mandates and inflows into deposit volumes.

Slight Decrease in Operating Income

SHKB has reported a 4.6 percent decrease in operating income, amounting to a drop of 2.2 million Swiss francs. This decline is attributed to the fact that credit risk provisions were reversed in 2023, and this one-time effect is no longer present.

The bank's continued development according to the strategic initiatives set at the beginning of 2024 has led to an increase in operating expenses (+8.4 percent). In addition to various other measures, the bank has simplified its account offerings, expanded self-service options for customers, and introduced new software for financing advice.

More Attractive and Affordable Offerings for Private Customers

Starting from 1st September, SHKB will significantly lower fees for private customers as part of its effort to attract customer deposits. For example, the monthly cost of the bank package will decrease from 9 to 7 francs. Customers will also gain access to free private accounts, debit cards, and a 50 percent discount on services such as power of attorney and tax returns.

Despite uncertainties related to market fluctuations and geopolitical issues, SHKB expects a strong overall result for 2024, slightly below the exceptional performance of the previous year.
