Gentrified Zurich Neighborhood Becomes All About the Dog

The project was supported by Swiss real estate company PSP Swiss Property and is part of a series of cultural initiatives aimed at transforming buildings into artworks and to date, PSP has converted two walls.

The one launched in June is the third called «The Artist», a mural that portrays an oversized, creative dog made by the artist duo One Truth Brothers and placed on a jarring windowless tower on the Hardturmstrasse in Zurich West.

Innovative Concept

«The idea for a mural came to us from the Projekt Südtrottoir. That was about an artistic intervention in a public space, and it is where we discovered One Truth Brothers», said Markus Perez from PSP Swiss Property to finews.art. The choice of the tower for the mural and the decision by the artistic duo was subsequently strengthened by their innovative concept, he indicated.

«We play around with the typical cliche of the mind of a creative artist», One Truth maintained, discussing the inspirational character of a dog which is meant to amuse all passersby and prompt them to attempt new and different things.

Live Performance

The vernissage of the 6 by 20 meter work took place on 28 June 2024  (see below) in the Galerie Kunst im West, which is a cooperation partner between the artistic duo and PSP. The event was a public one and was a great opportunity to personally meet the artists behind One Truth,  the two brothers Michael and Tobias Senn or Pase und Dr. Drax. The launching included a live (life) performance by the artists.

Besides «The Artist», the gallery also displayed other works by the duo, including paintings and drawings made in typical street art style as well as newer, calligraphy-based works.

Long-term Impact

«The Artist» gives the increasingly gentrified Zurich West neighborhood a new impulse that not only enriches the artistic landscape of the city itself but inspires and enlivens the surrounding community.

The project underlines PSP's efforts to make art accessible while transforming urban environments creatively.

One Truth Bros have been among the most renowned urban artists in Switzerland for more than 20 years. Their murals and facades, which are always officially commissioned, have provided them with international acclaim. Their works are currently held in private collections around the world. Since 2022, six of their works have formed part of the art collection of the city of Zurich. They received high media visibility in 2022 during a charity auction for a Prinz Albert von Monaco trust, whereby the Prince personally congratulated them for their work and the results achieved at the auction.
