Bitcoin Suisse Names Former UBS Banker as President

The Board of Directors of Bitcoin Suisse has a new composition. Yesterday, the General Assembly elected Ani Banerjee to the Board of Directors. He succeeds Urs Bigger, who did not stand for re-election.

Banerjee spent the first twelve years of his career in the financial industry at Citigroup, Cheyne Capital, and Blackrock. Since 2017, he has been working as a private investor and board member in various companies in the crypto sector.

Back in the Profit Zone

At the same time, the Board of Directors appointed Marco Menotti as the new Chairman of the Supervisory Board. He succeeds Luzius Meisser, who remains a member of the Board of Directors. Menotti was, among other roles, Head of Banking Products at UBS Switzerland. During this time, he and his team shaped the development of the UBS product portfolio. From 2018, he led the Banking Services division at SIX Group.

Already before the General Assembly, Bitcoin Suisse announced that it was operating back in the profit zone; finews.ch reported on this. After a net loss of 13 million Swiss francs for the previous year, the Zug-based company achieved an unaudited net profit of 17,2 million Swiss francs in the first quarter of 2024, more than offsetting the previous year's losses.

Cooperation with Swiss Private Bank

In February of this year, Bitcoin Suisse reached milestones in two core business areas: Assets under Custody exceeded 5 billion Swiss francs, while «Assets in Staking» reached 2 billion Swiss francs. At the beginning of June, the company announced a cooperation with Maerki Baumann, finews.ch reported on this.

The cooperation allows the Zurich private bank to leverage Bitcoin Suisse's crypto expertise in managing its investment solutions under the «Archip» brand and to expand its existing offerings in the field of digital assets. The «Joint Crypto Advisory Board» will integrate the collaboration into Maerki Baumann's investment process.
