Swissquote Joins Forces with Zurich Fintech for Structured Product Mission
Vintage cars, exclusive artworks, or wine collections: «collectibles» have mostly been an asset class reserved for investors with deep pockets. Similar to investment products from copyrights and patents, private jets, various types of single real estate and special real estate portfolios, or hedge fund and crypto strategies.
This is about to change, at least if Swissquote has its way. As the country's leading «digital-only» custodian bank, Swissquote has long been a pioneer in the field of cryptocurrencies, as finews.ch noted early on.
New Emission Platform for AMCs
Now, the bank led by CEO Marc Bürki is deepening its partnership with GenTwo (reported by finews.ch last fall), the leading fintech provider for securitization. In a press release, GenTwo announced that Swissquote would use the new «GenTwo Pro for Banks» emission platform as a «Preferred Partner,» which finews.ch described a few weeks ago.
The platform for issuing «Actively Managed Certificates» (AMCs) through a fully digital process «enables banks and their clients to create bankable products on all liquid or digital assets with the fastest time to market and the industry's lowest costs,» according to a press release.
The GenTwo-based product represents competition to existing AMC platforms in the B2B sector, such as those from UBS and Julius Baer.
According to GenTwo CEO Philippe A. Naegeli, the partnership with Swissquote will «combine the strengths of our two organizations to create synergies that will benefit both Swissquote and its customers.»
3.7 Billion Dollars «Under Service»
The B2B financial intermediary GenTwo, founded in 2018 by Patrick Loepfe and Philippe A. Naegeli (CEO since then), specializes in securitizing all types of tangible and intangible assets after careful due diligence. The route involves AMCs based in Switzerland.
The Zurich-based company now employs over one hundred staff. It has already launched around 1,400 individual, sometimes time-limited, AMCs with a volume of over 5 billion US dollars. The current value of «Assets under Service» is 3.7 billion US dollars.
Last fall, the well-known venture capital firm Point72 Ventures from San Francisco invested 15 million US dollars in GenTwo (reported by finews.ch).
Democratizing Finance
Jan De Schepper, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at Swissquote, expects the partnership to «expand our AMC business through the smooth and cost-efficient creation of structured products.» This will provide customers «with a greater selection and more opportunities, fully in line with our overall mission to democratize banking.»
