SIX Benefits With Revenues From Banking Services

The Swiss financial infrastructure group SIX was able to increase its profit in the first half of 2022 compared to the same period last year by some 12 percent to 121.3 million Swiss francs ($125 million), the exchange said in a statement Friday.

While operating earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (Ebitda) fell 5.5 percent to 213.7 million francs resulting from financial market turmoil, the firm's diversified business model, has proven its worth.

SIX had to accept setbacks in margins, market share, and operating income in the exchange trading segment, where the group had fully integrated the Spanish exchange BME in the first half of the year. The division's profit declined by 23 percent to 65.6 million francs. At the same time, profits in downstream securities services remained stable, while they fell by 14 percent in the financial information business, where the company is investing heavily in growth.

In contrast, SIX earned 9.5 million francs in its banking business, more than double the previous year's figure. The emerging division benefited from revenues from debit & mobile services, ATMs, and the eBill digital bill after a three-year building phase.

«Despite turbulent market conditions, we have achieved a solid result in the first half of the year,» said CEO Jos Dijsselhof.
