«A Brief History of Time» by Stephen Hawking

What is the book about:

Stephen Hawking takes the reader on a journey through space-time, between general relativity and quantum mechanics. He describes the research development of cosmology in an easy-to-understand way, starting in ancient Greece. Various insights that have influenced scientific thinking, including the development of the heliocentric worldview, Newton's laws, and Einstein's general and special theories of relativity are described. The discourse about the so far futile attempt to establish a unified theory that can explain the entire universe completes the work.

Why I recommend this book:

982f5291f49a703890c584bd9b46c0afaa9ca250 BF2000 2000The book is exciting, instructive and stimulating for scientists as well as non-scientists who are interested in the past, present and future of our universe. Even though I already know the work, I read it every now and again to remind myself that here on earth, we are only a vanishingly small part of something infinitely larger.
