«Die Anomalie» by Hervé Le Tellier
What is the book about:
An airplane en route from Paris to New York is caught in an electromagnetic hurricane in March 2021. Despite severe turbulence, the plane lands safely in New York. However, in June of the same year, the same plane with the same passengers lands a second time in New York. On the plane is a colorful group of people from different backgrounds. The only thing they have in common is that they all lead a double life in different ways - and now they exist twice. They are thus caught in an anomaly in which they are confronted with themselves and a world gone mad.
Why I recommend this book:
The book is an exciting thought experiment that deals with the question of existence in an entertaining way. The author develops the lives of the individual passengers in a captivating and intelligent way and creates in all kinds of entanglements - a mysterious double story in a class of its own with a disturbing ending. This wonderful summer read, which is philosophical, entertaining and funny at the same time, fascinated me, but also gave me lasting food for thought.
