«Gareth Jones – Eyewitness to the Holodomor» by Miroslaw Wlekly
What is the book about:
This is the life story of Cambridge student Gareth Jones, who traveled to Ukraine as a journalist in 1933 and saw the unspeakable horrors of Stalin's rule: An eternal famine in the land of wheat. Gareth Jones was murdered on a following trip.
Why I recommend this book:

To understand the present, you need to start with the past. History doesn't get more exciting and topical than this book: It gives insights into Russia's relationship with Ukraine, the power interests of Russia and Europe, the problems of the appeasement policy - and recognizes the suffering population as the ultimate losers. History repeats itself, but some things are different.
