Kilchberg, which is five kilometers from Zurich, is now the priciest municipality to buy property in Switzerland, according to findings by property services company Iazi. It also has the lowest tax rate in the canton of Zurich, according to Comparis.

Although both shores offer beautiful natural surroundings, as well international schools for well-heeled expat families, the sunlight-flooded gold coast has typically been the preferred home for Zurich’s affluent.

«Sniffle Coast»

The silver coast, also dubbed «sniffle coast,» has traditionally been mocked for being chillier due to dusk’s earlier onset below Uetliberg's hillside. The average price for a 5.5-room single family house in the hometown of the Lindt & Spruengli chocolate factory, is now 3 million Swiss francs ($3.3 million)

Prices in municipalities on the lake's west shore, especially those with low tax rates, such as Rueschlikon (5th place in Iazi's ranking), Thalwil (19th), and Oberrieden (16th), also fall into the top-20 most expensive towns.
