9. Roland Doerig: Eye Level With Power Barons

With 3 billion Swiss francs ($3.4 billion) in assets, Energy Infrastructure Partners was cut loose from Credit Suisse – the Swiss bank is merely a minority shareholder of its former fund subsidiary. The emancipation is a chance for the team around co-founder Ronald Doerig to prove EIP can thrive independently.
The Zurich-based investment house revealed its hand last month with a more than $500 million ($611 million) investment in Baywa r.e., a Bavarian renewable energy specialist. More major energy infrastructure deals are to follow: EIP manages Credit Suisse-affiliated CSA's pension money, which in turn is a major shareholder in power firm Alpiq and electricity network Swissgrid.
