What's the purpose of a supervisory board? What role played the board at GAM in this case? Monica Mächler (pictured above) is a member of the board – she is a finance expert and also used to be a vice president of the board of Finma, the financial market regulator in Switzerland. The board of GAM so far hasn't really showed much leadership in the bid to steady the ship. CEO Alexander Friedman, who's reputation is damaged, won't be able to do it on his own.
