Julius Baer Germany Expands its Board

Effective immediately, Cornelia Thum takes over as chief operating officer (COO) from Thomas Falk, at Bank Julius Baer Deutschland, the bank announced Tuesday. She is also appointed to the management board, bringing the total number of members to three.

Falk will continue in his chief financial and chief risk officer roles (CFO/CRO) at the firm, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Julius Baer group in Zurich. With the addition of Thun, Falk, and CEO Heiko Schlag make up the firm's management board.

Operational Responsibility

As COO, Thun is responsible for operations, IT, and projects. She joined the bank in Frankfurt in January 2011, starting in the product area and moving on to various positions in project management and business support. Since 2016, she has been responsible for the bank's business management in Germany. In addition, she brings ESG expertise to bear, something which has taken on increased importance in recent years.

She has been COO and a member of the extended Executive Board since 2022. Before joining Julius Baer, she worked at BHF-Bank AG and HypoVereinsbank as a client advisor in private banking and wealth management.

Growth Plans

By expanding the management board, Julius Baer said it is committing itself to future growth plans in Germany.

«In the two-person Board of Management of recent years, Thomas Falk has been very successful in managing the extensive issues and projects in his areas. We now want to tackle the next growth steps in a targeted manner. To achieve this, we need Thomas Falk's full expertise in the important core areas of CFO and CRO - and the additional support of Cornelia Thum as COO,» said Schlag.
