Swiss Logistics Project Gets Even More Banking Support
Cargo Sous Terrain (CST) is a project for an underground goods transport system linking the major Swiss business hubs. The financing of the logistics network will be provided by the private sector.
CST has attracted enormous support from business and includes a long list of financial services companies as backers. Among those firms is Credit Suisse, which incidentally was founded to provide the financing for the famous railway line through the Gotthard.
High Hopes for a Cleaner Future
At its annual general meeting, CST agreed to accept WIR-Bank as a new main shareholder, according to a statement released by the bank. WIR-CEO Bruno Stiegeler was appointed member of the board and CFO Mathias Thurneysen will take a seat on the Finance Committee.
The government in January decided on the legal framework for the project, which it intends to present to parliament beginning in the second half of the year. Switzerland hopes to reduce congestion and pollution by moving major chunks of its goods transport underground.
