4. Set the Scene

The background may seem secondary to the photo subject…but it’s not. Pick a setting you feel comfortable in and authentically conveys who you are. Sixty-seven-year-old Oswald Gruebel, walking along Lake Zurich in a pin-striped suit at dawn for a 2010 UBS campaign video, isn’t a genuine representation of him. Similarly, use your natural (working) habitat as your background to ensure authenticity. Studio shots should use a neutral background – bold colors will only overshadow you.
