Falciani: Behind Swiss Bars Soon?
Hervé Falciani, the self-proclaimed whistleblower, today has an important appointment in Madrid. The High Court of Spain will consider an extradition request from Switzerland, according to a «Reuters» report. A decision will follow either today or in coming days.
The Swiss Federal Criminal Court in 2015 condemned Falciani to five years in prison for economic espionage. The Spanish police in April arrested Falciani, who has French-Italian dual citizenship, and ordered him not to leave the country.
Tax Dodgers Convicted
His theft of data prompted a whole series of tax investigations against Swiss banks. Falciani had stolen the data of 15,000 customers in 2006 and 2007 and offered them to foreign authorities, such as France, the U.K. and Germany.
Investigations were started in France, Austria, Belgium and Argentina and thousands of tax dodgers were convicted as a consequence.
