Martin C. Wittig joined Bain & Company this month as a senior adviser, providing support for the firm’s financial services team, as it seeks to expand its banking and insurance consultancy portfolio in Switzerland, it said Friday.

Back After Serious Illness

The 54-year-old German national, resident in Switzerland and an engineer by profession, began his consultancy career with rival group Roland Berger, where he led the Swiss markets team. He joined the board of the company in 2003, and from 2010 acted as global CEO before a serious illness forced him to step down.

Now, Wittig is re-entering the fray, and aims to expand his network on behalf of Bain & Company, with one key mandate already secured: Wittig sits on the supervisory board of the new Europabank UBS SE, based in Frankfurt.
