Zurich's UBS hired Dan Williams (pictured below) as general counsel for its private bank in Asia-Pacific as well as for the overall region, finews.com has learned. 

He was most recently the Royal Bank of Scotland's counsel for corporate and institutional banking until late last year, when that bank pruned its international activities to focus on the U.K., Ireland and western Europe.

UBS has remained relatively scandal-free in recent years, save for its involvement in the 1MDB scandal as well as a Hong Kong probe into initial public offerings.

Zurich, Asia Bosses

Williams reports dually to overall private bank counsel Maria Leistner, as well as to the Swiss bank's top counsel, Markus Diethelm, and to Asia head Kathy Shih, in his regional role.

Williams has «wide-ranging knowledge of products and the Asia-Pacific region in general and has been heavily involved in managing a number of extensive regulatory investigations» and «proven track record of managing large teams,» according to a UBS memo.
